MLLC Releases New “Know Your Rights” Documents for Parents and the Public

At MLLC, we strive to provide citizens with clear summaries of law and policy related to common issues impacting faith, families, and freedom in Massachusetts. That’s why we have published three new “Know Your Rights” documents, specifically focused on parental rights and public records requests.

Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly common for some healthcare practices to try to take important medical decisions about children away from parents. The Know Your Rights: Parental Rights to Medical Decision-Making” document outlines the critical rights parents have in making informed medical decisions for their children. It emphasizes the importance of understanding parents’ legal authority to approve or decline medical treatments and the obligations of healthcare providers to honor parents’ legal and constitutional rights. This informative document empowers parents to take control of their child’s healthcare decisions with confidence.

The “Know Your Rights: Parents in the Doctor’s Office” document further clarifies the protections parents have when attending medical appointments with their children. It highlights the right to be present during exams and make informed decisions without interference.

Lastly, the “Know Your Rights: Public Records Requests” document offers a straightforward guide on how to request government records, ensuring transparency and accountability from public institutions.
